FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a Celebrant?

A funeral celebrant is someone who is qualified to host and officiate funeral services. As well as conducting the funeral itself, celebrants are involved in planning the order of service, writing the eulogy for your loved one and assisting with the choice of music, poetry, prose or prayers that might accompany the ceremony.

What are the advantages of having a celebrant-led funeral?

They’re flexible to your needs and wishes, without following any rigid structure. They create a true reflection of the life of your loved one through words, music and pictures.

How do I pay for a Funeral Celebrant?

This’ll be included as part of the costs you pay to the funeral director unless you come to me directly and wish to pay by bank transfer.

What should I consider for the content of the service?

I’ll help you with this when we meet. However, some useful questions to think about in advance include information about:

– where your loved one was born and grew up

– childhood and school days

– siblings and other family members they grew up with

– partners, children and grandchildren

– close friends and pets

– personality traits

– occupation and vocation in life

– teams, groups and societies to which they belonged

– interests and achievements

– likes and dislikes

– sayings and stories

– personal requests about their own funeral

– the role and contribution of any other participants in the funeral service

Who should speak at the funeral?

It’s always your choice. Many people will leave the majority of the proceedings to me. However, if you would like a family member or friend to read a poem or some prose or give a personal tribute to your loved one then we can discuss this when we meet and I will accommodate your wishes.

Do I need an Order of Service?

Ideally yes because it adds structure and certainty to the occasion. This is something I can help you with, although the funeral director will print the final draft.

Can I have a service/ceremony without having to go the crematorium?

Yes, I can hold a service or celebration of life wherever you would like it to take place.
